Eddie Bruce’s “For Dreamers and Their Dreams,” on all streaming platforms with CDs available on Bandcamp, is his first full album with the Ed Vezinho and Jim Ward Big Band, showcasing a rich collaboration rooted in decades of shared musical history.
The material reflects a broad emotional spectrum—from the tender balladry of “Some Other Time” to the bold swagger of “Charade” and the sparkling buoyancy of “How High the Moon.” Several tracks originated as trio arrangements by pianist Dean Schneider, including the inspired melding of “Feelin’ Good” with Miles Davis’ “So What,” which Vezinho transformed into a full big band masterpiece. Bruce’s one original song, “Philly is the City,” offers an affectionate anthem to his hometown, blending playful nods to “New York, New York” with the distinct spirit of Philadelphia.
Singer/bandleader/cabaret artist Eddie Bruce’s noted live and recorded celebrations of Tony Bennett and Anthony Newley, among others, have deservedly received a good deal of critical acclaim. However, because these projects, as wonderful as they are, are homages to individual artists; listeners and fans of Eddie’s haven’t gotten the chance to hear the compositions that really mean something to him personally. On this EP, “Where Do You Start?” we get the rare and welcomed opportunity to hear the songs close to this artist’s heart.
A completely remastered new album celebrating the great Tony Bennett, featuring three bonus tracks recorded live at the Gateway Theater. It is now streaming worldwide.
"While no one could replace the immortal Bennett, The Magic and Music of Tony Bennett makes a strong case for Eddie Bruce as a worthy standard-bearer for keeping this music vital and alive.” Steven James, Jazz in Europe
